1989P-1DER-007WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

Exhibiting the most restrained trail evidence among the 1989-P WS varieties, the 1989P-1DER-007WS shows light step deviation confined to columns 6 and 7 — just two columns rather than the four-to-five-column spans documented on companion varieties. The 190-degree trail offset continues the geometric pattern shared by 004WS through 006WS. Classified at Stage B, mid-die state (MDS), the obverse carries die scratches through the BE of LIBERTY, while the reverse shows a die clash in bay 4 — a transferred impression from the obverse die that appears within the Memorial's architectural interior. The die clash in bay 4 adds a production history dimension to this variety: beyond the hubbing anomaly that created the trail die features during manufacture, the die also experienced at least one clashing event during service where the obverse and reverse dies struck together without a planchet. The narrow two-column step deviation range on this variety suggests the secondary hub impression was either very slight in magnitude or oriented at an angle that concentrated its visible effect on a small section of the staircase. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint on copper-plated zinc planchets (97.5% zinc, 2.5% copper) at 2.5 grams and 19mm.
