1989 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DER-006WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

1989P-1DER-006WS has strong wavy steps under columns 5 through 8, where the trail lines pass over the stairs and warp their look. Fluting also reaches moderately into the stylobate beneath columns 2, 3 and 11, and lightly beneath column 12. The direction is 190°, just west of south. The code places it as file 006 among TrailDies' 1989 Philadelphia cent reverses (1989P-1DER), with WS for the stairs. It is a late-state coin with heavy scratching on both sides: on the obverse across the date, below LIBERTY and at the back of Lincoln's neck, and across the whole reverse, worst around the A and M of AMERICA. Polishing of the die with a rotary tool is how most account for trails, while some account for them by the die moving against the hub.
