Description
1989P-1DER-002WS shows lines across the full width of the Memorial: beneath the three outer columns at each end (1 to 3 and 10 to 12), several fluting lines per column reach moderately into the stylobate, and the stairs below columns 4 through 9 are lightly to moderately bent, which TrailDies calls wavy steps. The offset is 180°, due south. Its code: 1989P (date, Philadelphia), 1 (cent), DER (design extension reverse), 002 (file), WS. TrailDies records two die states. Early coins have only a small dot low in bay 1; by middle die state a round break has formed at the right end of the base, with another break on the right edge of the cornice. Louis Schaeffer found the early state. Rotary polishing of the die is the main explanation for trails, though some prefer the die moving against the hub.
