Description
1988P-1DER-007WS is a wavy-step reverse: the stairs look bent where trails cross them, moderately so below the middle four columns, 5 to 8. Fluting from columns 2, 3, 11 and 12 also reaches into the stylobate, lightly to moderately. The offset is 190°, angled just west of straight down. Ahead of the 007WS file code, 1988P-1DER identifies a 1988 Philadelphia cent in TrailDies' reverse design extension group. A late reverse was paired with an early obverse here; the obverse has a dent through the U of TRUST, and the reverse is heavily scratched through the motto and under the Memorial, with three strong scratches around the O and N of ONE. Louis Schaeffer found it. Trails are generally explained as the result of polishing the die with a rotary buff, though a few explain them by the die moving against the hub.
Die Markers
- Stage “C”, obverse is EDS – a die dent is seen through the U of TRUST.
- Reverse is LDS – heavy die scratching is seen through the EPU and below the memorial building. Three strong die scratches are seen around the ON of ONE.
