Description
On 1988P-1DER-006T every trail sits on the lower half of the reverse: the N and E of ONE, each letter of CENT, the designer's initials and the stylobate, at its right-hand corners. All point to 070°, east-northeast, toward the right and a little upward. In the number, 1988P is a Philadelphia date, 1 the cent, DER TrailDies' reverse design extension, 006 the file and T the trails. The middle-die-state reverse has no markers listed; on the obverse there is a small dot atop the 9 and another inside the bottom loop of LIBERTY's B. Louis Schaeffer found it. Trails are widely thought to come from polishing of the die with a rotary buff, though some think the die moved against the hub.

- Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – small die dot on top of the 9 digit. A small die dot is seen in the lower loop of the B in LIBERTY.
