1988 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DER-005WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

The stairs of 1988P-1DER-005WS ripple moderately below columns 5 to 8, and the fluting of columns 2 and 3 reaches lightly into the stylobate, all oriented at 190°, a little west of straight down. TrailDies' number: 1988P for the Philadelphia date, 1 for the cent, DER for the reverse design extension, 005 for the file and WS for wavy steps, the rippled stairs that trails leave. The coin it describes sits between early and middle die state, with heavy scratching across the obverse; on the reverse, three heavy scratches lie above the left side of the roof and more heavy scratching runs below the Memorial. Louis Schaeffer of Maryland reported it. Polishing of the die with a rotary tool is the common account of trails, though some give an account in which the die moves against the hub.
