1988 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DEO-009T Trail Die Obverse

Description

On 1988P-1DEO-009T the trails rise from the tops of the LIBERTY letters and point straight up, at 000°, due north; lines show on the date as well. Here 1988P is the Philadelphia date, 1 the denomination, DEO the obverse design extension category, 009 the file and T the trails. Neither side has much to mark it at this early stage: the obverse has nothing listed, and the reverse has a chip on the lowest stair line below the left urn. Cal Goddard is named as the finder. Trails like these are generally blamed on rotary polishing of the die; a few specialists think the die moved against the hub.
