Description
1988P-1DEO-008T has its trails at the date: lines leave the bottoms of the 1 and 9 and run to 250°, west-southwest, down and to the left. Its code is built from 1988P (date and Philadelphia mint), 1 (cent), DEO (TrailDies' obverse design extension), 008 (file) and T (trails). TrailDies lists it with a reverse it numbers 1998P-1WHDER-001. The obverse is early and unmarked; on the reverse, light scratches surround the S and T of STATES and a gouge sits at the lower left of the T in CENT. Cal Goddard found it. The usual explanation for trails is polishing of the die with a rotary buff, with movement of the die against the hub as the minority view.

- Reverse is EDS – light die scratching can be seen around the ST of STATES. A die gouge is seen to the bottom left of the T in CENT.
