1988 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DEO-007T Trail Die Obverse

Description

Only the word IN shows trails on 1988P-1DEO-007T, and they point to 330°, northwest, toward the upper left. TrailDies' number is the 1988 date with P for Philadelphia, then 1DEO for a one-cent obverse with a design extension, file 007 and T for trails. It appears with the reverses 1988P-1WHDER-001 and 1988P-1DER-013T. The die is early; scratches leave Lincoln's bow tie and run below his chin, and on the reverse a gouge sits just left of the first S of STATES. Cal Goddard found the die. Rotary-buff polishing of the die accounts for most trails in the usual view; the alternative is movement of the die against the hub.
