1988 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DEO-006T Trail Die Obverse

Description

1988P-1DEO-006T runs two ways. On this 1988 Philadelphia cent obverse the lines from the letters of TRUST point to 300°, up and to the left, while those from the R, T and Y of LIBERTY head the opposite way, at 120°, down and to the right. The number stands for date and mint (1988P), cent (1), design extension obverse (DEO), file 006 and trails (T). TrailDies records it with two reverses, 1988P-1WHDER-001 and the trail die 1988P-1DER-012WST. Both sides are early. The obverse has no markers; the reverse shows small gouges beneath the final S of STATES and beneath the E of ONE. Cal Goddard found it. Rotary polishing of the die is the explanation usually given for trails, though some favour the die moving against the hub.
