Description
1988P-1DEO-005T, a 1988 Philadelphia cent obverse, has trails hanging below the L, I and B of LIBERTY, pointing to 190°, south with a slight westward lean. The middle part of the number, 1DEO, is TrailDies' shorthand for a cent obverse with a design extension; 005 is the file and T marks trails. The obverse at this early stage has nothing to identify it, so the reverse markers matter: a dot inside the upper part of the N of ONE and a small gouge above the second of the shrubs to the right of the Memorial. Aisha Shahid found it. Trails are often credited to polishing of the die with a rotary tool; others credit the die moving against the hub.
Die Markers
- Stage “A “, obverse is EDS – none noted
- Reverse is EDS – a die dot is seen in the upper part of the N in ONE. A small die gouge is seen over the second shrub on the right side of the Memorial building.
