1988 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DEO-003T Trail Die Obverse

Description

1988P-1DEO-003T has trails on just four letters, the T, R, U and S of TRUST, on a 1988 Philadelphia cent obverse. They point to 300°, northwest, up and to the left. TrailDies' number joins the date and mint (1988P), the denomination (1), its obverse design extension label (DEO), file 003 and the trails suffix T. The coin is early in the die's life, with die scratches between the 9 and the 8 of the date and nothing noted on the reverse. Jean Lee found the die. Polishing with a rotary buff is the usual explanation for such lines; some attribute them to the die moving against the hub.
