1988 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DEO-002T Trail Die Obverse

Description

The letters of LIBERTY on 1988P-1DEO-002T have lines coming off their upper left corners, aimed at 340°, north-northwest, toward the top of the coin and slightly left. In the number, 1988P is the date and Philadelphia mint, 1 the cent, DEO TrailDies' design extension obverse, 002 the file and T the trails. Both sides of the coin it describes are in late die state. The obverse has a small dot between the G and O of GOD and a gouge between the R and U of TRUST; the reverse has no markers listed. Louis Schaeffer found it. Trails are typically traced to polishing of the die with a rotary buff, though some prefer the explanation that the die moved against the hub.
