Description

1988-D WTRD-009 is a transitional reverse design on the 1988-D Lincoln Memorial cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as a 1988-D cent carrying the 1989 reverse design. Obverse markers: a gouge at the vest's front edge, WSW of the 1 in the date; a short, almost vertical gouge at the base of the bust, just north of the V of the designer's initials; a gouge left of the I in IN, near its base; one inside the O of GOD; two gouges at the feet of the T and R of TRUST, between them; and a north-south scratch beside the lower nose and the lips, on their right. On the reverse, right of the bottom of the second A in AMERICA, a short gouge runs SSW to NNE. Bill Haase submitted the variety. Crawford lists it as CTRD-008.
