Description

1988-D WTRD-005 is a transitional reverse design on the 1988-D Lincoln Memorial cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as a 1988-D Lincoln cent struck with the 1989 reverse design. On the obverse, a short NW-to-SE scratch lies under the second 8 of 1988. There is a vertical gouge at the rim, between TRUST's T and R, and a scratch reaches the rim from the upper left of TRUST's U. On the reverse, a gouge shows inside the lower part of AMERICA's first A, and three scratches reach the rim from the top of UNITED's T. Joseph Koelling submitted the variety, with updated photos and markers taken from a coin supplied by Charles Hudson. Crawford lists it as CTRD-004.
