Description
Moderate lines hang from the bottoms of columns 1 through 8 on 1987P-1DER-014WS, a 1987 Philadelphia Lincoln cent reverse, carrying down across the stairs so the steps look wavy. They run due south at 180°. In TrailDies' scheme the number means 1987, P mint, one-cent denomination (1), reverse design extension (DER), file 014, wavy steps (WS). The obverse paired with it is late in its life, with very heavy scratching through LIBERTY, while the reverse is early; two tiny dots under the left upright of the T in CENT mark it. Louis Schaeffer turned this one up. Trails are commonly traced to a rotary buff used to polish the die, though a few specialists credit the die moving against the hub.
Die Markers
- Stage “A “, obverse is LDS – very heavy die scratching is seen through LIBERTY.
- Reverse is EDS – two small die dots are seen below the left vertical of the T in CENT.
