Description
Moderate step deviation runs under five columns, 5 through 9, on 1987P-1DER-007WS, at 180°, due south. Wavy steps of this kind are trails crossing the Memorial stairs so that the steps no longer look straight. The code strings together 1987P, a 1 for the denomination, DER for the reverse side, the file number 007 and WS for the wavy-step type. The coin is graded EMDS, early in the middle die state (stage B). Two die dents sit beside the first T in TRUST on the obverse, and two small die dots lie above the O in ONE on the reverse. It was found by Louis Schaeffer of Maryland. Wavy steps are most often put down to polishing the die with a rotary buff, though some attribute them to the die moving against the hub.
Die Markers
