1987 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DER-003WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

On 1987P-1DER-003WS the fluting of column 3 extends moderately into the stylobate, and the steps under columns 5, 6 and 7 bend lightly toward 180°, due south. Those bent steps are what TrailDies' WS (wavy steps) label refers to: trails crossing the Memorial's stairs so they look rippled. The rest of the code covers the 1987 Philadelphia date, the cent's 1, the reverse code DER and file 003. TrailDies grades it stage B. Diagonal scratches run through the date on the obverse, and the reverse has heavy scratches through ONE and CENT and beneath the right end of the base. No finder is named. Wavy steps, like other trails, are commonly attributed to polishing the die with a rotary buff; some attribute them to the die moving against the hub.
