Description

1987P-1DER-001WS has light step bending beneath the sixth, seventh and eighth columns of the Memorial, meaning trails cross the stairs there and bend their edges. TrailDies lists the direction as 180°, due south. In the code, 1987P gives the Philadelphia date, 1 the cent, DER a reverse design extension, 001 the file and WS the wavy-step type. The coin is graded LDS, stage C, with plenty of markers: east-west scratches under WE on the obverse; on the reverse, east-west scratches under the Memorial, a clash below the left end of its base, a crack from the left tip of the base to the rim, and heavy scratches above the right end of the base. No finder is named. Wavy steps are usually attributed to polishing of the die with a rotary tool, though some attribute them to the die moving against the hub.
