1987 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DEO-007T Trail Die Obverse

Description

1987P-1DEO-007T has trails rising from the tops of the date digits and from Lincoln's bow tie, all at 350°, a little west of north. In the code, the year and P lead, followed by the cent's denomination digit, the DEO side tag for the obverse, file number 007 and the trail suffix T. TrailDies' coin was struck early in the dies' life (stage A), and it notes no markers on either side, so the bow-tie trails and the direction are the clearest way to tell this die from other 1987 Philadelphia trail dies. Wayne Perry found the die. Trails are generally put down to the die being polished with a rotary buff, while some attribute them to the die moving against the hub.
