1987 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DEO-006T Trail Die Obverse

Description

On 1987P-1DEO-006T the light trails come from the digits of the date and run due east, 090°, toward the right edge of the coin. Decoded, 1987P is a Philadelphia coin of 1987, the 1 makes it a cent, DEO points to the obverse, 006 is its file number and T denotes trails. The coin is an early die state (stage A). A small gouge sits at the lower left of the O in GOD, and on the reverse a small scratch lies just beneath the N of UNITED. Jean Lee found the die. The usual attribution for trails is polishing of the die with a rotary tool, though some attribute them to the die moving against the hub.
