1987 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DEO-004T Trail Die Obverse

Description

Light trails leave the tops of the LIBERTY letters on 1987P-1DEO-004T at 350°, slightly west of due north. TrailDies' number joins the 1987 Philadelphia date, the one-cent digit, DEO for the obverse side, file 004 and T for trails. The coin was struck around the middle of the dies' life (stage B). On the obverse, a small gouge lies near the rim to the left of the designer's initials VDB. On the reverse, a small die dot sits inside the O of ONE and another on the inner left leg of its N. No finder is named. Most accounts trace trails to polishing of the die with a rotary tool, though some attribute them to the die moving against the hub.

• Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – small die gouge next to the rim and to the left of VDB.
• Reverse is MDS – small die dot in the O of ONE. Die dot on the inner left leg of the N in ONE.
