1987 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DEO-003T Trail Die Obverse

Description

1987P-1DEO-003T shows light trails from the tops of L, I, B, E, R and T in LIBERTY, pointing due north at 000°, up toward the rim. In TrailDies' code, 1987P is the date and mint, 1 the cent, DEO the obverse, 003 the file and T the trails suffix. Stage B, the middle die state, is the grade TrailDies gives. A useful obverse marker is the R of TRUST, whose right leg has a notch, and on the reverse a gouge lies to the left of the Memorial's base. No finder is named. Trails are usually blamed on polishing of the die with a rotary buff, while some attribute them to the die moving against the hub.
