1987 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DEO-002T Trail Die Obverse

Description

On 1987P-1DEO-002T a single clear trail leaves the top of the 7 in the date, and the 8 shows the familiar distortion as two short trails from its top. TrailDies calls it a good example of the type even without long lines elsewhere. The direction is 030°, north-northeast, up and to the right. In the number, 1987P covers date and mint, 1 the denomination, DEO the side, and 002T the file plus the trails type. TrailDies grades the coin LDS (stage C), with a gouge under Lincoln's chin and a scratch to the right of his bow tie; on the reverse a gouge sits on the left side of the upright of the T in CENT. No finder is named. Trails are generally attributed to polishing the die with a rotary tool; some attribute them to the die moving against the hub.
