Description
Light lines leave the upper left corners of the B, E and R of LIBERTY on 1985P-1DEO-001T and point toward 340°, north-northwest. TrailDies' number opens with 1985P, the date and its Philadelphia P; then come the cent's 1, DEO for the obverse, file 001 and the trails suffix T. Its dies were in mid-life (stage B, MDS). A small die dot sits just above the gap between the B and E of LIBERTY. The reverse has a die break at the foot of the R in AMERICA and a crack from the right side of the base line to the rim. Louis Schaeffer found the die. Trails are commonly attributed to polishing the die with a rotary tool, while a minority attributes them to the die moving against the hub.
Die Markers
- Stage “B”, obverse is MDS – small die dot between and above the B and E of LIBERTY.
- Reverse is MDS – die break on the bottom of the foot of the R in AMERICA. A die crack is seen from the right side base line to the rim.
