1984 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DEO-005T Trail Die Obverse

Description

1984P-1DEO-005T carries trails below the IBER of LIBERTY, running straight down the coin at 180°, due south. TrailDies builds the code from the 1984 date with P, the digit 1 (one cent), DEO, which flags an obverse design extension, the file count 005 and a closing T that classes it as a trails die. The coin dates from the middle of the dies' life (stage B). The obverse marker is a small gouge above the R of TRUST, and the reverse has a long scratch running through the CE of CENT. Aisha Shahid found the die. The cause usually given for trails is polishing of the die with a rotary buff; some attribute them to the die moving against the hub instead.
