1984 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DEO-003T Trail Die Obverse

Description

Trails leave the upper left of each letter of LIBERTY on 1984P-1DEO-003T and point toward 350°, just west of due north. TrailDies' number lays out the date and Philadelphia mint (1984P), the denomination (1), the side affected (DEO, obverse), the file (003) and the trails suffix (T). On the worn, stage C coin it describes, there is die damage beneath the first T of TRUST and a die dot between the 9 and 8 of the date; nothing is recorded on the reverse. Louis Schaeffer found the die. The usual attribution for trails is polishing of the die with a rotary buff, though some put them down to the die moving against the hub.

• Stage “C”, obverse is LDS – die damage is seen below the first T of TRUST. A die dot is seen between the 9 and 8 digits in the date.
