1984 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-009

Description

1984-D WRPM-009 is a repunched mint mark on the 1984-D Lincoln Memorial cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as D/D Tilted (Rotated): the secondary D sits at an angle to the primary one. At obverse Stage A, there is a gouge beneath TRUST's first T and another on the bust NE of the VDB initials. Scratches run mostly east to west across the right field and mostly SW to NE across the left field. From the lower lip a strong scratch runs NE, crossing a set of finer east-west scratches that run from the mouth, and a gouge shows between the lips. At obverse Stage B, every gouge remains but the scratches have all worn away; a strong gouge appears to the chin's right, and another beneath the left part of GOD's O. On the reverse at Stage A, a gouge sits above the tip of the bottom crossbar of AMERICA's E, with another well below that E, and a series of gouges lies under the C and A of AMERICA. Scratches run mostly east to west through the upper half of the reverse and mostly WNW to ESE through the lower third, and there is a die clash in bay 9. Reverse Stage B is a new reverse die: a gouge marks the lower right edge of the left upright of ONE's N, a small gouge lies on the left cornice over bay 1, and a gouge sits under the left side of the T in STATES.
