1984-D Repunched Mintmark WRPM-009

Description

Among the most extensively documented repunched mint marks in the Lincoln Memorial series, WRPM-009 for the 1984 Denver cent shows D/D Tilted (Rotated) repunching with two die stages across two different reverse dies, cataloged as Wexler 1984-D 1¢ WRPM-009. Stage A obverse markers include a gouge under the first T in TRUST, a gouge on the bust northeast of VDB, east-west die scratches through the right field, southwest-northeast scratches through the left field, a strong scratch from the lower lip, and a gouge between the lips. By Stage B, scratches have worn away but gouges persist, with a strong new gouge right of the chin and another under the O in GOD. Stage A reverse shows gouges above and below the E in AMERICA, gouges under C and A in AMERICA, east-west scratches across the upper half, and a die clash in bay 9. Stage B introduces a new reverse die entirely: a gouge on the lower right N in ONE, a small gouge on the left cornice above Bay 1, and a gouge under the left T in STATES. Denver produced approximately 5.57 billion 1984 cents on copper-plated zinc planchets at 2.5 grams. D/D Tilted (Rotated) Die Markers: Obverse: Stage A: Die gouge under first T in TRUST. Die gouge on bust NE of VDB. A die gouge shows between the lips. Stage B: All die gouges still present. Strong die gouge right of chin. Die gouge under left side of O in GOD. Reverse: Stage A: Die gouge above the end of the lowest crossbar of the E in AMERICA. Die gouge well below the E in AMERICA. A series of die gouges under the C and A in AMERICA. A die gouge shows on the lower right edge of the left vertical bar of the N in ONE. A small die gouge shows on the left Memorial cornice above Bay 1. Die gouge under left side of T in STATES.
