Description
Numbered seventh in the Wexler team's census, WRPM-007 documents another die where the hand-punching process left visible evidence of multiple mint mark applications on the 1984 Denver Mint Lincoln Memorial cent. Cataloged as Wexler 1984-D 1¢ WRPM-007, this variety contributes to a census demonstrating the frequency with which repunching occurred during die preparation. Seven Wexler-attributed RPMs for a single date and mint — in addition to the VarietyVista-cataloged RPMs — indicates that repunching was not an isolated anomaly but a recurring feature of the manual die preparation workflow. For collectors, the growing number of confirmed RPMs for 1984-D cents creates opportunities for assembling specialized sets organized by repunching direction, magnitude, or die state. The hand-punching era for Lincoln cent mint marks ended after 1989, when the Mint transitioned to including the mint mark on the master die. Every 1984-D RPM belongs to the final chapter of a tradition stretching back to the earliest days of branch mint operations.
