1984-D Repunched Mintmark WRPM-006

Description

Showing D/D North repunching and documented with exceptionally detailed die markers on both obverse and reverse, WRPM-006 is one of the most thoroughly characterized repunched mint mark varieties in the 1984 Denver Mint Lincoln Memorial cent series. Cataloged as Wexler 1984-D 1¢ WRPM-006, the northward shift of the secondary mint mark impression places the remnant above the final D position. Obverse die markers include a gouge in the vest area southwest of the mint mark, gouges on and around Lincoln's earlobe, gouges south of the second T in TRUST, and a gouge near the hair detail under the O in GOD. On the reverse, a die crack runs through column 9 of the Memorial, accompanied by a gouge on the lower left of the first A in AMERICA, a gouge halfway between the second A in AMERICA and column 12, and gouges to the left of the T in CENT. This wealth of diagnostic features across both sides of the coin gives attributors multiple independent checkpoints for confirming the die pair, making WRPM-006 one of the most confidently identifiable RPMs in the 1984-D catalog. Denver struck approximately 5.57 billion cents on copper-plated zinc planchets at 2.5 grams. D/D North Die Markers: Obverse: Die gouge in vest southwest of mint mark.
