Attributed by the Wexler Team as 1980-P 50-cent WDDO-001, this Kennedy Half Dollar doubled die obverse holds the primary DDO designation for the 1980 Philadelphia Mint issue, indicating it was the first cataloged obverse doubled die for this date and typically represents the strongest or most significant variety discovered. The WDDO-001 position carries weight among variety collectors because it often denotes the most visually prominent doubling, making it the benchmark against which all subsequent DDO discoveries for the same date are compared. The Kennedy Half Dollar was designed by Gilberto Proctor Roberts (obverse portrait of President John F. Kennedy) and Frank Gasparro (Presidential Seal reverse), introduced in 1964 following President Kennedy's assassination.
