1978 (D) Lincoln Memorial Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-001 / RPM-001

Description

Attributed by the Wexler team as WRPM-001 and by VarietyVista as RPM-001, this repunched mint mark on the 1978-D Lincoln Memorial cent is a D/D Southwest, with the secondary D lying southwest of the primary. Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties credits Brian Allen with the submission. On the obverse, die scratches run SSW from the TY of LIBERTY. The reverse carries heavy scratches running WNW/ESE through and beneath E PLURIBUS UNUM, plus further scratches in the same direction above ONE and through the C of CENT. Wexler cross-references CONECA RPM #1 and Coppercoins 1978D-1MM-001. VarietyVista also names Brian Allen as the reporter and gives the same D/D Southwest description. Under its marker codes UVC-3120 and DMR-002, Stage A has the obverse in an early die state and east-west reverse die scratches at an early-middle die state; Stage B (middle) and Stage C (late) are unconfirmed.
