1972 (S) Silver Eisenhower Dollar - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-005

Description

1972-S WDDO-005 is a doubled die obverse on the 1972-S silver Eisenhower dollar, cataloged by the Wexler team. The date and IN GOD WE TRUST show Class II tripling toward the center. LIBERTY shows it close, with the widest spread at the tops of the L and I. On the obverse, a short diagonal gouge lies right of the upper L in LIBERTY, and a scratch runs SW from the rim left of the B. Right of the upper Y, a west-to-east scratch crosses another scratch that runs WNW to ESE. Two small gouges sit SW of the S mint mark. The reverse shows the doubling found on WMHR-001. A crack crosses the horizontal bar of STATES's A and runs into the field right of the letter, and a gouge lies right of the center of the second T in STATES. Terry Zerr submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
