The 1972 (S) Silver Eisenhower Dollar is a dollar from the San Francisco Mint, belonging to the Eisenhower Dollars 1971-1978 series. The San Francisco Mint struck 2,193,056 silver uncirculated dollars dated 1972. The obverse features Dwight D. Eisenhower facing left and the reverse displays an eagle landing on the moon with an olive branch in its talons, commemorating the Apollo 11 lunar landing. The 1972 Philadelphia dollars come with three reverses: Type 1 shows three islands to the right of Florida, Type 2 has no islands below Florida, and Type 3 shows islands below Florida, with stronger relief (NGC). San Francisco's storied mint, born of the California Gold Rush, has evolved into the primary producer of U.S. proof coins.
