Description

This 1972-D Eisenhower Dollar DDR-001 is among the most complex die variety assignments for the series, spanning five die stages (A through E) with two separate UVC/DMR code pairs. Stages A and B are cataloged under UVC-037 and DMR-002, while Stages C through E transition to UVC-038 and DMR-003 — reflecting a confirmed obverse die change at Stage C. The reverse doubling shows medium spread on all rim lettering, stars, the earth globe, and craters. Classification code RDV-001 applies throughout. Stage C is additionally listed as DDO-001, meaning the new obverse die itself carries documented doubling, giving Stage C through E examples dual variety status. Stage D adds a die chip outside the upper O of OF, and Stage E is designated very late die state. Struck as a clad business strike, the 1972-D Eisenhower Dollar DDR-001 is one of the anchor varieties in the VarietyVista Ike Dollar catalog.
