Cataloged by VarietyVista as UVC-562 with die marriage reference DMR-007, the 1971-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-004 is a proof Roosevelt Dime displaying an S/S Tilted repunched mintmark — where the San Francisco mintmark punch was applied twice with the second impression at a different rotational angle, creating a tilted displacement pattern rather than a simple directional shift. The die state progression lists Stage A with both obverse and reverse in early die state, Stage B as mid-die-state (unconfirmed), and Stage C as late die state (unconfirmed). As a proof coin struck at the San Francisco Mint, this dime was produced on specially polished planchets with polished dies, yielding the mirror-like fields and sharply defined devices characteristic of proof production — conditions that make repunched mintmark features more readily visible because the high-quality surface captures fine die details with exceptional fidelity.
