Description
1971 WDDR-001 is a doubled die reverse on the 1971 Eisenhower dollar, cataloged by the Wexler team. A Class II spread toward the center shows on stars 1 through 3 and 10 through 13, on the upper serifs of UNITED and AMERICA, and on ONE DOLLAR's lower serifs. The obverse is a doubled die too: Wexler lists Obverse Stage A as 1971 WDDO-001A and Obverse Stage B as 1971 WDDO-001B. Reverse Stage A has a small gouge (dot) inside the top of DOLLAR's R and a scratch running ESE from the upper right of the second L. A gouge sits under UNITED's D, OF's F has a scratch heading ESE from its center right, star 8 has parallel scratches heading WNW off its left side, and star 9 has a scratch heading ESE off its top. On Reverse Stage B the Stage A markers remain but are very weak. John A. Wexler submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
