1971 Eisenhower Dollar - Doubled Die Reverse DDR-001

Description

Holding the distinction of being the very first doubled die reverse cataloged for the Eisenhower Dollar series, this 1971 DDR-001 displays medium spread across all letters and stars around the rim. The comprehensive doubling — affecting every peripheral inscription and star — indicates a substantial hub misalignment displacing the secondary impression uniformly around the circumference. Stage A at early die state is unconfirmed. Stage B records both sides in mid-die state, where most documented specimens originate. Stage C at late die state is unconfirmed. The 1971 Eisenhower Dollar was the first year of the series, honoring President Eisenhower and featuring Frank Gasparro's Apollo 11 eagle-landing reverse. Philadelphia business strikes were copper-nickel clad, while 40% silver collector versions were struck at San Francisco. Cataloged by VarietyVista as UVC-003 and DMR-003, DDR-001's position as the inaugural DDR for the Ike series gives it foundational significance for Eisenhower Dollar variety collectors.
