Fourth in the VarietyVista repunched mintmark sequence for the 1970-D Lincoln Memorial cent, RPM-004 documents yet another instance of Denver Mint personnel applying the D mintmark punch more than once during die preparation, with insufficient alignment between impressions leaving a telltale shadow of the first punch visible beneath or beside the final strike. Cataloged under die markers UVC-937 and DMR-005, this variety tracks through three die stages across both surfaces. Stage A at Early Die State remains unconfirmed — a common gap in the VarietyVista record where the earliest impressions from a newly minted die were not recognized as a distinct variety until later die states surfaced and prompted retroactive searches. Stage B presents both obverse and reverse at Mid Die State, offering the clearest window for attribution when die markers are fully developed but not yet obscured by fatigue. By Stage C, the obverse has reached Late Die State (unconfirmed), where progressive metal flow and die erosion begin softening the repunched mintmark evidence that defines this variety.
