1969-S Repunched Mintmark WRPM-010

Description

Completing the first ten entries in Wexler's 1969-S cent RPM catalog, WRPM-010 (Wexler Variety ID: 1969-S 1¢ WRPM-010) exhibits an S/S North repunch — the original S was punched, then a second impression was applied displaced to the north, leaving the lower serifs of the first punch visible below the final mint mark position. This northward displacement produces what collectors often describe as a "shadow" extending below the S, most visible at the base curves under moderate magnification. The die markers for this variety are extensive and well-documented. On the obverse, die scratches run north and north-northeast from the top of Lincoln's head below the WE of WE TRUST, while a small die gouge appearing as a dot can be found to the left of the bottom of the 6 in the date. The reverse carries three distinct die gouges serving as confirmatory markers: one touching the lower left of the U in UNITED, another just to the left of the upper second S in STATES, and a third inside the lower E in CENT.
