1968 (S) Proof Roosevelt Dime - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-002 / DDR-004

Description

DDR-004, which Wexler numbers WDDR-002, is a doubled die reverse on the 1968-S proof Roosevelt dime with a medium spread across UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and a lighter spread on ONE DIME. Both catalogs cite Cherrypickers FS-802. Wexler describes a Class I counterclockwise spread on the flames atop the torch, E PLU, ONE DIME and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. It finds no significant obverse markers and identifies a Type 2 reverse. John A. Wexler submitted the coin. Wexler cross-references it as CONECA 4-R-I and writes the Cherrypickers number as FS-10-1968S-802, noting that it was dropped in the 6th edition. VarietyVista credits Mark Williams with the report and gives the reverse as its design variety RDV-002 (strong flame). Under its marker codes UVC-522 and DMR-013 it lists three stages: Stage A, an early die state, and Stage C, a late one, are both unconfirmed, while at Stage B the reverse and obverse are in a middle die state.
