1967 SMS Kennedy Half Dollar - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-005

Description

1967 WDDO-005 is a doubled die obverse on the 1967 Special Mint Set Kennedy half dollar, cataloged by the Wexler team. The quadruple spread is clearest on ER of LIBERTY at the upper left serifs, on TY at the lower left serifs, and on the pair of hair strands under LIBERTY's R and to its right. More doubling shows on WE TRUST, LIBERTY, the date, the hair below those strands and the hair at the upper back of the head. Obverse markers: in front of the eye, scratches; at the lower left of the G in GOD, small die chips (dots); a long N/S scratch reaching from above the Adam's apple down to the 9 of the date; and scratches from the D of GOD to the area behind the chin. On the reverse, the A of HALF has a short heavy scratch inside its right leg, low down, and below the right leg of AMERICA's last A sits a small mass of die chips. Gary Wagnon submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references and notes that it is found in 1967 Special Mint Sets.
