Description

The 1964 Proof DDR-011 is a doubled die reverse variety on the Philadelphia Mint Proof Kennedy Half Dollar, cataloged by VarietyVista as UVC-343 with die-marriage reference DMR-044 and die variety designations ODV-002/RDV-002, known as the "Flared G" variety. The reverse displays light spread on UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, with medium spread on all stars around the rim and the designer's initials — peripheral elements showing stronger doubling than the central legend, consistent with a rotational hub doubling event. This is a paired doubled die: the obverse die is listed as DDO-029, meaning collectors who locate DDR-011 also possess a doubled die obverse. Three die stages have been tracked: Stage A shows the reverse in early die state with the obverse confirmed as DDO-029 in early die state; Stages B and C remain unconfirmed. The 1964 Proof Kennedy Half Dollar holds enormous significance as the first-year issue honoring President Kennedy, struck in 90% silver. Doubled die varieties on this inaugural Proof issue command strong collector interest, particularly when paired with a complementary obverse doubled die.
