Description
DDO-002, which Wexler numbers WDDO-001, is a doubled die obverse on the 1964 proof Kennedy half dollar, listed as FS-101 in the Cherrypickers' Guide. Wexler writes the number FS-50-1964-101 (013.2), and VarietyVista FS-101 (13.2). Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties records a strong counterclockwise spread from a pivot at roughly 9:00, visible on IN GOD WE TRUST, LIBERTY and the date, on the designer's initials, and in the upper hair. On the obverse a short vertical die gouge sits at the rim left of the R in LIBERTY, and a short diagonal die scratch lies right of the top of the Y. On the reverse the G in FG is flared, and Wexler attributes the slight doubling on UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the ring of stars to the doubled master die it lists as WMDR-001. John Jencek submitted the coin; CONECA lists the die as 2-O-V. VarietyVista, crediting John A. Wexler with the report, describes a strong spread on WE TRUST, the RTY of LIBERTY and the upper hair, and a light one on the LIBE of LIBERTY, IN GOD and the date. It marks the coin as a proof, lists the obverse and reverse design varieties as ODV-002 and RDV-002 (Flared G), and uses marker codes UVC-007 and DMR-007. Stage A, an early die state, is unconfirmed; in stage B both sides are in a middle die state and in stage C both are late.
