1964 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-012
Error
Description
Paired with ODV-011 featuring the distinctive blunt 9 in the date, DDR-012 on the 1964 Roosevelt Dime documents light spread on USA, ONE DIME, and M of UNUM. Struck in 90% silver during the final year of silver dime production before the 1965 transition to clad, this variety marks the terminal year of a 79-year run of silver ten-cent pieces dating to the Barber Dime's 1892 debut. Cataloged by VarietyVista as UVC-446 and DMR-021, die stage B shows many die cracks indicating advanced structural deterioration. The blunt 9 obverse die variety (ODV-011) provides an independent obverse diagnostic where the tail of the 9 terminates abruptly rather than tapering to a point. John R. Sinnock's Roosevelt Dime design features the torch, olive, and oak branch reverse where light spread affects legend, denomination, and motto text. The ODV-011 blunt 9 designation documents the specific obverse die variety within the attribution system, and the many Stage B die cracks confirm advanced die fatigue on this last-year silver dime. The 1964 date holds special significance as the final circulating 90% silver dime.
