Description

Producing proof coinage in 1964 required the Philadelphia Mint to prepare more working dies than a typical proof year, driven by extraordinary public demand for the first Kennedy Half Dollar proof sets. Each working die was individually hubbed from the master hub, and misalignment between successive hubbings produced a doubled die.
