1964 Kennedy Half Dollar - Doubled Die Obverse DDO-007

Description

Known among collectors by the nickname "Flared G," this doubled die obverse from the Kennedy Half Dollar's inaugural year shows strong spread on WE TRUST, LIBERTY, and the date. The 1964 Kennedy Half Dollar was struck in 90% silver at a time of intense national demand following President Kennedy's assassination, making it one of the most heavily studied dates in the series. DDO-007 is cross-referenced as FS-102 and carries the die variety designations ODV-002/RDV-002. Multiple die stages have been documented through progressive die wear: Stage A shows both obverse and reverse in Early Die State, Stage B captures both in Mid Die State, and Stage C records both in Late Die State. This multi-stage tracking with die marker references UVC-012 and DMR-012 allows collectors to identify not just the die pair but the approximate point in the die's working life when their specimen was struck. The variety was cataloged by VarietyVista. Collectors pursuing the full die state progression of this doubled die face the challenge of locating specimens from each documented stage.
