1964 (D) Roosevelt Dime - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-008

Description

1964-D WRPM-008 is a repunched mint mark on the 1964-D Roosevelt dime, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as D/D Tilted (Rotated). The obverse has a Blunt 9. An E/W die crack crosses the nose and a N/S crack runs through the hair. Near the rim right of LIBERTY's Y are E/W scratches, and old scratches extend NW off the chin and lips. Light scratches lie between IN GOD and WE TRUST, and a light scratch extends SE off TRUST's U. Gouges sit above 96 in the date, left of LIBERTY's R, and on both sides of its Y. On the reverse, concentric scratches mark the rim above UNITED and above OF. Many N/S scratches cross UNITED and the olive branches, NW/SE scratches join E and R in AMERICA, and N/S scratches lie between the dot and UNUM's M. Right of the flame is a long, thin NNE/SSW scratch. Eric Axtell submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references and notes this is a replacement listing, since the original files were missing from the Bordner files. The comments add that this die may once have been WRPM-009, though the Bordner files and photos do not confirm it.
