1964 (D) Roosevelt Dime - Repunched Mintmark RPM-001

Description

RPM-001 documents a D/D North repunched mintmark on the 1964-D Roosevelt Dime — the final year of the 90% silver Roosevelt Dime series before the Coinage Act of 1965 replaced silver with clad composition. This variety is paired with ODV-010 (Pointed 9) Obverse Die Variety, making it a doubly attributed variety combining both the repunched mintmark and a recognized obverse die characteristic. Catalogued UVC-477 and DMR-025, the variety is documented across three die stages: Stage A (early die state), Stage B (mid die state), and Stage C (late die state). The 1964-D Roosevelt Dime was struck in 90% silver — 90% silver, 10% copper — at the Denver Mint under John R. Sinnock's design. North-direction repunched mintmarks arise when the initial D punch is applied too far north before being corrected to the final position, leaving a displaced secondary D impression above the primary. The three-stage progression allows collectors to sequence examples across the full die life, and the ODV-010 companion attribution provides an additional identification layer independent of the mintmark repositioning.
