1963 Doubled Die Obverse DDO-003
Error
Description
Medium rotational spread on LIBERTY and hair details, with light spread on the date, characterizes DDO-003 of the 1963 Proof Roosevelt Dime. Rotational spread indicates the hub pivoted during the secondary impression, creating displacement that varies in intensity with distance from the pivot point. The reverse is independently listed as DDR-021, creating a dual-variety die pairing where both sides carry cataloged hub-doubling features. Attributed by VarietyVista with die markers UVC-398 and DMR-005, three progressive stages are documented: Stage A shows the obverse in early die state with the reverse also in early die state as DDR-021, Stage B shows both at mid-die state, and Stage C in late die state remains unconfirmed. The 1963 Proof Roosevelt Dime was struck at Philadelphia for annual proof sets during the final year of 90% silver composition before the 1965 clad transition. Proof surfaces with mirror-like fields reveal rotational spread more readily than business strikes. Struck in 90% silver and 10% copper, this last-year silver proof Roosevelt Dime combines rotational obverse doubling with a paired DDR-021 reverse on a historically significant transitional-era coin.
